(1935) dir Alfred Hitchcock w/Robert Donat, Madeleine Carroll [86 min]
The chemistry between Robert Donat and Madeleine Carroll is undeniable, and quite charming, in this romp through the British countryside from a pre-Hollywood Master Of Suspense. Hitchcock’s obsession with mistaken identity sparks a manhunt through Scotland, as Donat’s Richard Hannay is both pursued by the police for a murder he didn’t commit and hot on the trail of a sinister spy ring. When he crosses paths with beautiful, feisty Pamela (Carroll) – who turns him in to the cops not once but twice – things get more complicated but, let’s admit it, far more enjoyable.
