(Kiseki | 2011 | Japan) dir Hirokazu Kore-eda w/Koki Maeda, Ohshirô Maeda, Ryôga Hayashi [128 min]
This charming film about family and hope from one of today’s best Japanese directors follows in the footsteps of 2008’s Still Walking. Twelve-year-old Koichi and his younger brother Ryunosuke have been separated by their parents’ divorce and Koichi’s only wish is for his family to be reunited. When he learns that a new bullet train line will soon link his estranged parents’ two towns, he starts to believe that a miracle will take place the moment these new trains first pass each other at top speed.
