Bow Sim Mark 50th Anniversary Screenings
Friday, July 10 – Saturday, July 11
Did you know that one of the first tai chi schools in the United States was founded right here in Boston? Bow-sim Mark moved here from Hong Kong along with her family and founded the now legendary Chinese Wushu Research Institute in 1976. Sifu Mark is credited with helping to popularize the term Wushu (literally ‘martial arts’) here in the United States and she was among the first to teach standardized Wushu to American audiences. One of her first students was her son, action star Donnie Yen who cut his teeth working with the amazing action choreographer and director Yuen Woo-ping in the ‘80s and ‘90s and has gone on to international stardom in films like Rogue One and JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of Sifu Mark’s school, and to celebrate her legacy, The Brattle is thrilled to partner with her students to present these three films featuring Donnie Yen in some of his iconic performances.
