From acclaimed director Lou Ye (Suzhou River, Summer Palace), AN UNFINISHED FILM is a unique depiction of the COVID-19 crisis told from inside the epicenter. In late 2019 near Wuhan, a filmmaker (Xiaorui) reunites the cast and crew of an abandoned project with the intention of finally completing it. But, when the virus emerges shortly thereafter, the team find themselves in lockdown together trying to figure out a way forward.

In reality, the same thing happened to Lou Ye and his film crew, so the circumstances of the fictional film mirror the reality of the crew working on this film and vice-versa. Combining fiction and documentary footage together so closely that the two become indistinguishable, Lou Ye both commemorates those lost to the virus and creates a thoughtful, humanistic portrait of the pandemic.
