CALIGULA, the infamous X-rated Roman melodrama, has been reborn in a new version that excises the incongruous pornography that was inserted into the original release by its producers. In fact, this new version goes beyond just a re-edit, the film has been completely reconstructed using alternate shots and new technology to try and get as close as possible to what the storied British cast, the up-and-coming Italian director, and the general public were sold at the time: a wild look at the excesses of Ancient Rome told with the pathos of a Shakespearean drama.
