Private eye Jake Gittes lives off of the murky moral climate of sunbaked, pre-World War II Southern California. Hired by a beautiful socialite to investigate her husband’s extra-marital affair, Gittes is swept into a maelstrom of double dealings and deadly deceits, uncovering a web of personal and political scandals that come crashing together.

We are pleased to be able to screen this classic from a privately owned I.B. Technicolor print. There is something magical about the saturated colors of a true Technicolor print that is impossible to describe—you have to see it to understand it. This unique manner of processing photochemical color film is now nearly impossible to recreate, and the prints are so rare that they are generally not provided by studios for public screenings. The few precious prints that remain in private hands are really the only way to see some of the most gorgeous color images ever projected.
