Chocolate Babies

Opens on October 9

Director: Stephen Winter Run Time: 83 min. Format: DCP Release Year: 1997

Starring: Claude E. Sloan, Dudley Findlay Jr., Jon Kit Lee, Michael Lynch, Suzanne Gregg Ferguson

There’s punk spirit in Stephen Winter’s CHOCOLATE BABIES, messy and rebellious in its style and convicted in its radical Black queer point of view, as it weaves a story about an activist (or so called ‘terrorist’) group, comprising queer people of color, many of whom are living with HIV/AIDS. CHOCOLATE BABIES was released in 1996, when the politics and diagnoses around AIDS were changing, but they were changing for mostly white gay cisgender men. Winter’s provocative and winningly brazen film forces its audiences to confront the racialized context of the AIDS crisis and the politics affecting the people most at risk.

Double Feature with TANGERINE
