A dysfunctional sonic collective—a band devoted to the sounds of the culinary arts—navigates rivalries internal and external in this absurdly original feast for the senses from the singular Peter Strickland. To be clear, this is not a band that makes music about food, it is a band that makes music using food… and they consider themselves to be the best. The in-fighting and egos in the group are exacerbated by, and come to a cacophonous head during, a residency at the ultra-competitive Sonic Catering Institute run by the imposing Jan Stevens (Christie). If you are a fan of the ultra-composed, über-idiosyncratic works of Strickland (In Fabric, Duke of Burgundy) or his in- fluences from the sensuous, colorful oddities of 60s European genre cinema, you are in for an absolute treat.
“As usual, Strickland has made a sumptuous meal out of social impropriety — a strange cinematic delicacy about the discomforts that need to be shared so that others don’t have to be stomached.” – David Ehrlich, IndieWire
“The wickedly funny ‘Flux Gourmet’ serves up food, poop, orgies, satire — and soul.” – Justin Chang, Los Angeles Times
