New Restored 35mm Print! Filmmaker in Person!
The Brattle is thrilled to be the first stop for a brand new 35mm print of the newly restored, 1994 avant-anarcho-ecosatire FRESH KILL with director Shu Lea Chaeng in person! This stylized cult classic envisions a post-apocalyptic landscape strewn with electronic detritus and suffering the toxic repercussions of mass marketing in a hightech commodity culture. It also tells the story of two young lesbian parents caught up in a battle over the global exchange of industrial waste when their child disappears after eating contaminated fish.
“A celebration of multicultural diversity… suggests that love may be the only defense.” – Kevin Thomas, Los Angeles Times
“Shu Lea Cheang’s wicked directorial debut is a lethal comedy swimming through a torrent of toxic multinational treachery.” — Lawrence Chua, BOMB Magazine
