The legendary flop that supposedly drove United Artists into near bankruptcy, HEAVEN’S GATE is an amazingly singular films from one of Hollywood’s most meticulous directors. The film was inspired by The Johnson County War, a bloody battle fought between landowners and cattle drivers in 1890’s Wyoming. Walken plays an enforcer hired by the landowners whose allegiances are challenged because of the lovely brothel owner Ella Watson (Huppert).
