An endless moebius loop of dark desires and dream logic, LOST HIGHWAY is an indispensable part of David Lynch’s legendary filmography. Los Angeles saxophone player Fred Madison (Pullman) and his beautiful wife Renee (Arquette) begin to receive cryptic messages and disturbing videotapes that seem to show someone filming them while they sleep. The weirdness grows ever more threatening and, eventually, Renee is apparently murdered, and Fred is convicted for the crime despite claiming to have no memory of the event. One night, however, Fred inexplicably disappears from his cell on death row and is replaced by a young mechanic named Pete (Getty)… And it only gets stranger from there.

With an iconic soundtrack featuring Nine Inch Nails, David Bowie, and others, LOST HIGHWAY is a brain-twisting work of nightmare that we are thrilled to bring back to The Brattle screen 25 years (almost to the day) from the first time we screened it. Now available in a brilliant new 4K restoration from our friends at Janus Films (also responsible for the recent, seemingly impossible restoration of Lynch’s Inland Empire), LOST HIGHWAY is ready to ignite the screen once again.

Please Note: As of April 20, The Brattle will no longer require proof of vaccination/negative test result to attend our events, however masks are still required except when actively eating or drinking. Please visit the Covid Response page for complete details.
