New Restoration!
After a successful robbery leaves famed thief Lupin the Third and his partner Jigen with nothing but a large amount of expertly crafted counterfeit bills, he decides to track down the forgers responsible—and steal any other treasures he may find in the Castle of Cagliostro, including the ‘damsel in distress’ he finds imprisoned there.
This new restoration of the first feature from animation legend Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away) is non-stop fun and excitement. Playing like a madcap throwback to an imagined screwball heist film starring Cary Grant, Walter Matthau, and Natalie Wood, THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO features much of the signature romantic adventure to be found in Miyazaki’s other early features (particularly Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso) but with a distinctly “Saturday Morning Cartoon” vibe thrown in.
