50th Anniversary!
Andrei Tarkovsky’s SOLARIS tells a sort of cosmic detective story as a psychologist cosmonaut (Banionis) is sent to a space station orbiting the planet Solaris to sort out the meaning behind the strange transmissions that have been received from its last three inhabitants. What he finds are menacing phantoms conjured from the spacemen’s own guilty pasts and made solid by an unknown force. As chilling and surreal a film as anything ever committed to celluloid.
