In this remarkable debut feature from writer/director/star Eva Victor, Agnes (Victor), a literature professor at a small New England college, is clearly stuck. Like many academics, Agnes is still living in the same mode that she was in school, but something seems extra small and constrained about her life—as her best friend (Ackie) points out during a visit. Something bad happened to Agnes and, as the film patiently reveals the details about her trauma, the audience begins to understand the nature of the character and her circumstances. Dryly funny, sublimely acted, and deftly directed SORRY, BABY is one of the great first films of 2025.
