Though the Coen Brothers’ darkly comedic THE BIG LEBOWSKI is most overtly an homage to Chandler’s epically convoluted novel The Big Sleep, it’s not difficult to see the influence of Elliott Gould’s performance in THE LONG GOODBYE on Jeff Bridges’ portrayal of The Dude—one of the most iconic characters of the ‘90s.
