In Francis Ford Coppola’s exemplary paranoid thriller, surveillance expert Harry Caul (Hackman) is hired to record a conversation between two people in crowded San Francisco. A complex technical challenge, Harry at first has no qualms about this operation and performs his duties flawlessly. Once he begins to suspect the motives behind the recording, however, and his concern for the safety of the subjects grows, he becomes obsessed with getting to the bottom of it all.
