In this elegiac rumination on memory, nostalgia, and lost love, two young music students, Lionel (Mescal) and David (O’Connor), attending the Boston Conservatory in 1917, bond over their shared love of folk music and quickly fall into bed together. Their romance interrupted by WWI, the pair reconnect a few years later, embarking on a song collecting trip in the backwaters of Maine that profoundly impacts the rest of their lives even though they will never see each other again.
