In Bernardo Bertolucci’s celebrated international epic, John Lone stars as Puyi, the final emperor of China prior to the turbulent years pre-WWII and the rise of Mao Zedong. THE LAST EMPEROR weaves stories from Puyi’s youth with those from his life after being ejected from Beijing in 1924. Sakamoto (along with fellow composers David Byrne and Cong Su) won the Academy Award for Best Original Score.
