Using the technique of rotoscoping (painting over live-action footage) Bakshi creates a truly otherworldly look for J.R.R. Tolkien’s timeless fantasy epic and the voice cast, recruited from the famed BBC Radio Drama Company, includes C-3PO himself Anthony Daniels as Legolas and John Hurt as Aragorn.
