Demi Moore stars as a fading fitness star who is tempted into trying a mysterious procedure that allows her to live as a younger version of herself every other week but, without any control over this symbiotic doppelganger, things quickly start to unravel. Owing more to the gross-out provocations of Brian Yuzna and Stuart Gordon than the intellectual body horror of David Cronenberg, THE SUBSTANCE culminates in a literal blood bath that must be seen to be believed.
