Boston Jewish Film Festival

Our 15th annual celebration of next-generation Jewish filmmakers across the globe, with six short films from France, Israel, and the United States. A prestigious jury of young professionals selected these films: Rosie Fellig, Shelly Hed, and Lani Weil.

Followed by a conversation with FreshFlix filmmakers, moderated by BJF Artistic Director Joey Katz.

Miriam (Josie Andrews, 16 min)
12-year-old Miriam secretly skips her rabbi’s lessons to pursue skateboarding under the wing of a homeless teen. But when her double life is exposed, Miriam must choose between sparking change in her community or chasing her dreams.

Babka (Serena Dykman, 17 min)
In the heart of Hasidic Brooklyn, a newly blind Orthodox baker forms an unlikely friendship with a Queer Catholic Latino guide dog trainer. The ‘odd couple” overcome personal and cultural barriers as the baker works to reopen his beloved bakery.

Maurice’s Bar (Tzor Edery, Tom Prezman, 15 min)
On a train to nowhere, a former drag queen remembers a night from her past in one of Paris’ first queer bars and its mysterious Jewish-Algerian owner.

Revived (Uriya Hertz, 16 min)
A young yeshiva student spends a meaningful night with the bartender of the gay venue he visits after he realizes his bag, full of his religious clothes, has gone missing.

Unraveled (Yale Fried, 14 min)
On the verge of his Bar Mitzvah, Simon’s recurring nightmares about dropping the Torah threaten to derail his big day.

Unholy (Daisy Friedman, 14 min)
Noa, a 20-year-old living with Short Bowel Syndrome, attends her family’s Passover Seder while using a feeding tube for nutrition.
