National Treasures
Wednesday, July 1 – Wednesday, July 8
We’ll be honest, this program really started as an excuse to play NATIONAL TREASURE on the 4th of July. We couldn’t resist the opportunity to screen that absurd, and absurdly entertaining, Da Vinci Code lite film on America’s 250th birthday. Once we started polling folks around the theater about who they would bestow ‘national treasure’ status on, however, it started to take more shape.
All of the films featured here feature a star or significant player that someone might say “Oh yeah, [person X]–national treasure!” about. For instance, “Oh yeah, Morgan Freeman–national treasure!” Of course, calling someone a ‘national treasure’ is a hyperbolic statement and, so, we’ve chosen to feature these stars in some of their most hyperbolic movies—crowd-pleasing, over-the-top action, adventure, and thrillers from the nineties and early aughts.
