All New Restorations!
The Brattle is thrilled to continue our traditions of bringing underseen films to new audiences and uplifting women filmmakers by partnering with our friends at Janus Films on the Boston area premiere of this important new series. A vanguard of the Hungarian New Wave, Márta Mészáros’s rich and cohesive body of work—uniquely attuned to the social, economic, and political forces that govern the lives of working people, especially women—has made her one of Central Europe’s foremost directors and a pioneer among women filmmakers worldwide. This first U.S. retrospective of her films brings together essential new restorations that reveal her to be one of postwar European cinema’s major unsung voices.
Please Note: All in-person screenings at the Brattle now require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test (within 72-hours). See the Covid Response page for complete details.
