As the centerpiece of this program, 100 NIGHTS OF HERO is a prime example of what we’re calling ‘Fablecore’ and grounds itself in a storytelling tradition that predates film history. 100 NIGHTS OF HERO takes place in a fantasy world where a young woman in a loveless marriage (Monroe) is unknowingly made the subject of a crass wager between her husband and his womanizing friend (Calitzine). She is saved, however, by her maid, Hero (Corrin) who enthralls them both by weaving a seemingly never-ending tale. Ultimately, a film about the power of storytelling even in the face of violent oppression, 100 NIGHTS OF HERO features a gauzy style that effectively evokes the feeling of being told an old, old story.
