A young girl, Sophie (Corio) and her father Calum (Mescal) are on vacation together in Turkey. Slowly the truth of their relationship is revealed over the course of this wondrous film. Calum is clearly troubled–though he puts on a good face for Sophie, he relies on Tai chi and self-help books to keep himself on an even keel. Sophie is 11 years old, on the edge of puberty, and is bright and observant enough to know that not everything is OK with her father. Ultimately, AFTERSUN is a snapshot of the lives of these two characters told through an impressionistic collage of moments that are seen both through the eyes of a child and with the distance of hindsight.
