Pakula and cinematographer Gordon Willis bring a neo-noir sensibility to the material, while Redford and Hoffman are remarkable playing the real-life journalists Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein who together exposed the details of the Watergate scandal. Rarely has the sound of a typewriter proved to be more tense and thrilling on screen.
