Louis Malle’s wild and inventive allegorical fairy tale begins with an Alice-like young woman (Harrison) fleeing a literal war between the sexes that is ravaging the countryside. Escaping into a secluded country chateau (Malle’s own home), she finds herself trapped in the surreal Freudian games of the bizarre family that lives there. An atypically experimental film from one of cinema’s greatest humanist directors, BLACK MOON is a unique cinematic experience.
