Though he had had some significant roles after breaking out in NO WAY OUT, Poitier really shot up in stardom when he appeared as a rebellious high schooler in Richard Brooks’ almost-but-not-quite teensploitation melodrama, BLACKBOARD JUNGLE. Poitier plays Gregory Miller, the teenaged foil to Glenn Ford’s principled inner city school teacher.
