Arguably the second-best Godzilla movie ever made, Takashi Yamazaki’s GODZILLA MINUS ONE is, simultaneously, a thrilling giant monster picture and a moving drama about post-WWII Japan with genuine echoes of Yasujiro Ozu. Technically, this film was released in 2023, but The Brattle was unable to screen it as part of last year’s “best of” series so we’re cheating a bit to include it here because it is that good.
