The Late Show
Devout hospice nurse Maud (Clark) spends her days obsessing over saving her headstrong, cancer-stricken patient, Amanda (Ehle), from a life of eternal damnation. As the two grow closer, Maud increasingly spends her downtime performing masochistic acts of self-flagellation that crescendo into a shocking ending. Rose Glass’ stunning feature debut aptly addresses the physical and mental aspects of illness, while simultaneously creating a nail-biting sense of tension and dread that sticks with the viewer well after the credits roll.
“Understated yet opulent, measured, and intensely creepy, it’s a tour de force in balancing uncomfortable levels of tension and suspense with deep pathos.” – Aja Romano, Vox
