On a train from Peking to Shanghai, with the backdrop of a civil war in China, passengers are unexpectedly waylaid by rebels. The illustrious Shanghai Lil (Dietrich) is one of the passengers as well as a gentleman from her past. Lil tries to convince her former lover that she is a changed woman. Also along for the ride is legendary Asian-American actress Anna May Wong whose character has her own agenda.
