This seldom screened noir rarity holds one of the most brilliant – and 180-degree – twists in mystery film history. A stalwart Parisian police detective (Geray) on a much-needed vacation in the country finds romance with the daughter of the local innkeeper. Unfortunately, a murderer lurks in the shadows and the detective is drawn into the investigation just when it looked like he was heading for a happily-ever-after ending.
