Lynch’s first feature film after the midnight success of ERASERHEAD was this emotionally stirring biopic about Joseph “John” Merrick (Hurt), the titular Elephant Man, who lived in the Victorian era and was left physically misshapen by congenital disease. Shot in gorgeous black and white, THE ELEPHANT MAN is a classic historical drama bearing Lynch’s distinct artistic stamp
