One of the great unmitigated disasters of contemporary cinema, THE ISLAND OF DR. MOREAU is a bizarrely entertaining mess best known for its on-set drama caused by clashing egos, natural disasters, temperamental directors, personal tragedies, and just plain bad luck. Kilmer plays a washed-up doctor/veterinarian who helps the infamous Dr. Moreau (Brando) with his human-animal hybrid experiments on an isolated island that a marooned diplomat (Thewlis) arrives at seeking rescue.
