Japanese master stylist Kenji Mizoguchi interweaves two gothic tales set in turbulent medieval Japan. A potter on a journey to sell his wares is seduced by a ghostly noblewoman and abandons his wife and child. Meanwhile, his brother-in-law fakes his way into becoming a samurai and unwittingly sacrifices his wife’s honor and wellbeing in the process.
