This miraculous, challenging film from the great Agnès Varda actually had it’s Boston premiere here at The Brattle back in 1986 and we’re always pleased to feature it again. Screening in a digital restoration from Varda’s CineTamaris, VAGABOND begins with the stark image of Mona (Bonnaire) frozen to death in a ditch and then rewinds to investigate how she ended up with this fate. Varda’s vast reserves of empathy are passed on to the audience as we learn about a staunchly idiosyncratic outsider who lives (and dies) on her own terms.
