Violet

Opens on March 5

Director: Justine Bateman Run Time: 92 min. Format: DCP Release Year: 2021

Starring: Justin Theroux, Olivia Munn

Another excellent directorial debut from a well-known actress, VIOLET benefits from Justine Bateman serving as the creative force behind it. Olivia Munn gives a powerhouse performance as a film executive who, despite being successful and independent, finds herself constantly belittled by her own inner critic. Even though it is nothing more than a voice in her head, “The Voice” (given personality by Justin Theroux) has been controlling Violet’s behavior, acting like an abusive partner, and forcing her to make decisions from a place of fear rather than a place of power. When Violet begins to suspect that The Voice is lying to her, she starts to defy it, and finds her life moving in surprising new directions.

“Bateman is a woman with both an extraordinarily precise vision, and the talent and good old-fashioned moxie to pull it off.” – Alexandra Heller-Nicholas, AWFJ Women on Film
