The Late Show Plus!

Jane Schoenbrun’s latest breathes a breath of fresh air into the long cinematic tradition of using homage and pastiche to create something new and comment on the past. Kris (Einbinder), an aspiring young director, travels to the isolated retreat of faded scream queen Billy Presley (Anderson) in an attempt to get her on board for a reboot of the Camp Miasma series that made her a cult icon. Arriving at what turns out to be the shooting location of the original film, now seemingly a museum for one, Kris finds something wholly unexpected when she meets Billy—a connection that goes far deeper than a fan’s devotion and the physical manifestation of Camp Miasma’s supposedly fictional villain, Little Death.
