SBN Eat Local Film Night

Run Time: 120 min.

Join the Sustainable Business Network of MA for a film screening as part of Eat Local Month!

About this event
The Sustainable Business Network of MA is excited to present an evening of short films as part of Eat Local Month at the Brattle Theater in Cambridge! We will be viewing three shorts: The Need to GROW, Recipe for Disaster, and Estrellita. We hope you can join us for this educational glimpse into the New England food system.

About the Films:

THE NEED TO GROW (96 min) – Rosario Dawson’s THE NEED TO GROW delivers alarming evidence on the importance of healthy soil — revealing not only the potential of localized food production working with nature, but our opportunity as individuals to help regenerate our planet’s dying soils and participate in the restoration of the Earth.

RECIPE FOR DISASTER (7 min) – Green Crabs in the Great Marsh is the story of an ecological catastrophe in the making in four neighboring towns on the Massachusetts coast. As native scallops, mussels, clams, and protective eelgrass disappear under the explosive invasion of green crabs, scientists, local experts, and residents are scrambling to save the marsh from decimation. The film is written, produced and directed by Nubar Alexanian.

ESTRELLITA (Little Star) (8 min) – ESTRELLITA by Daniel Houghton tells a piercing story about the constant threat of family separation and deportation for undocumented farmworkers in Vermont. Seen through the eyes of a little girl growing up on a dairy farm, the story begins in an idyllic wonderland of childhood adventure that turns dark when a powerful force raids the farm to capture her father.
