The first dramatic film from noted documentarian Frederick Wiseman in twenty years, A COUPLE dramatizes the correspondence between Leo Tolstoy and Sophia, his wife of 36 years. The pair had a tumultuous relationship and, despite living in the same house, they frequently wrote letters to each other. This film is Sophia’s monologue about the joys and struggles of their life together, loosely drawn from their letters to each other and their diary entries.
