Director Pablo Larrain shot SPENCER more like a horror film, rather than the romantic perspective typical of a royal story. Set during the annual family gathering of the British royal family from Christmas to Boxing Day, SPENCER speculates what it was like for a fragile Princess Diana, with a marriage crumbling around her and constant surveillance by her in-laws and their staff, to play happy wife.
