We’ve asked our staff to share some of the films & events they are most excited to see at The Brattle from our new calendar, and as expected, their picks touch on every corner of our programming. Explore below for a snapshot of the varied tastes of our team members, and maybe you’ll find someone who shares your interests!

MOONSTRUCK • March 5

“Moonstruck is one of the best romcoms ever and has a star-studded cast. So excited to see this on 35mm for Reel Film Day! Rest in Peace to the great John Mahoney.” – Ryan C.

THE LAST PICTURE SHOW • March 12

“I only know Cybill Shepherd from ‘Taxi Driver’ (1976), and can’t wait to see her in this! The director, Peter Bogdanovich, is a name I keep hearing, but I haven’t had a chance to see any of his movies. This will check off a lot of boxes I think.” – Tom R.

“The Last Picture Show was recommended to me by a Brattle customer shortly after Peter Bogdanovich passed away. I fully intend to follow up on their recommendation!” – Ryan C.

LITTLE WOMEN • March 13

“Before there was Barbie, there was Jo. (Both directed by Greta Gerwig). Contemporary holiday masterpiece with some of the best young actors working today. A spirited and heartwarming re-telling of the classic story.” – Tom R.

THE SOCIAL NETWORK • March 14

“While the scenes of Harvard campus were mostly filmed at Johns Hopkins, it’s still cool to watch this entrepreneurial thriller about Harvard AT Harvard. Should have won best picture over ‘The King’s Speech’ for sure. You’ll be tempted to found a start-up after this one – moral of the story be damned!” – Tom R.

AFTER LIFE • March 15+16

“This looks stunning. Exactly the type of contemplative movie I’m attracted to. After seeing the trailer I can’t stop wondering: What would my memory be?” – Ryan C.

“Excited to see this on the big screen and I’m hoping to choose my ‘moment’ before I go into it to see if it deepens the experience.”  – Jackie D.

BOSTON UNDERGROUND FILM FEST • March 20–24

Recommended by Jackie D.

THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE • March 29

“I love how stylish and campy the Italian Giallos can be. I didn’t realize ‘Bird’ was also scored by the legendary Ennio Morricone!” – Ryan C.

MUPPET TREASURE ISLAND • April 15

“It’s a popular meme that this one succeeds because Tim Curry acts as if he’s a fellow Muppet and I am definitely one to agree. Try not to sing Cabin Fever the next time you’ve hit a boring part of the day.” – James D.

SUNSHINE • April 16

“For those of us who felt like Melancholia was a bit too real – this movie is where it’s at. Star studded cast, SO MUCH ACTION, and still plenty of existential dread. This film rocks!! Five stars✨☄️☀️🕶️🚀👩🏼‍🚀” – Cheyenne H.

DEEP IMPACT • April 19+20

“Although often compared to Armageddon (which was released the same summer), the scope and tone of this story feels a lot more like the classic sci-fi novels ‘Lucifer’s Hammer’ and ‘Footfall’ by Niven and Pournelle. Come watch the world get blown up on the big screen! You’ll understand why they had to take Jolt Cola off the grocery shelves!” – Tom R.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY • April 20

“Don’t shun me, but I’ve never seen it.” – Jackie D.

MEN IN BLACK • April 20

“Tommy LJ drawl in beautiful full force.” – Jackie D.

DAYS OF HEAVEN • April 26–28

“Why haven’t I seen this movie yet? Shame. Shame!” – Tom R.

“Terrence Malick’s gorgeous rendering of the early 20th century with great performances that buoy the fantastic shots that Malick gets in this picture. The shot of the locusts rising out of the field (apparantly peanut shells air dropped and shot in reverse) is still mesmerizing decades later.” – James D.

HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN 2, and HALLOWEEN 3: SEASON OF THE WITCH • April 28 – May 1

“183 more days ’til Halloween. But who’s counting?” – Ryan C.

HALLOWEEN • April 28 – May 1

“John Carpenter’s third film is still a stone cold classic. Lean and mean with a great introduction to one of the all time great Hollywood boogeyman in Michael Myers.” – James D.

HALLOWEEN 3: SEASON OF THE WITCH • April 30 + May 1

“I’ve seen the first movie a bunch of times, but haven’t gotten to the other installments yet. I hear #3 is the best of the ‘others’ – and you don’t even have to have seen #2 first. Might be fun and trippy to watch this outside of spooky season. Boo!” – Tom R.

“Tom Atkins, a weird and looney horror plot to create mass sacrifice using Halloween masks, robots, paganism, and other B movie delights. What’s not to love?” – James D.
